Sunset at the beach

We walked across the street to watch the sunset.

It was a nice one!

Ice Cream in Lahaina

Banyan Treats- home of Hawaii’s best cookie 2021.

It has a face!! She was SO excited!

The cookie was good, but we have had better.

The Lahaina Banyan Tree

We have been fascinated by the banyan trees. This is the largest one in the United States. It’s in the beach town of Lahaina. We had to go!

Hard to believe it is only 150 years old. There are so many trunks and the branches spread over the entire park. The growth rate must be incredibly fast!

This is the center and original trunk. It’s amazing that everyone obeys the signs and does not climb. It would make an excellent climbing tree.

Snorkeling at Kapalua Beach

It’s a beautiful stretch of beach with a marine preserve. It was the perfect place to try snorkeling for the first time. Within minutes of putting our faces in the water we saw two sea turtles and a wide variety of fish. Sam loved it! Alix was not fond of the salt water but enjoyed watching the wildlife. We did not have a fish identification card so we couldn’t tell you everything we saw. We do know that one of them was called a unicorn fish.

The Burger Shack

Not really a shack, but a restaurant with an incredible view. We had an amazing lunch in a decadent location!

Lava Tube

We could look down this to all the way to the water. It’s the same thing that created the blow hole.

Nakalele Point

We weren’t sure which we liked better. The view or the blow hole!

Nakalele Point and blow hole

An amazing rock outcropping that juts into the Pacific. There is a blow hole that spews water whenever a large wave comes in. It puts on quite a show! We hiked down the rocky trail and were treated to an incredible show.

Rocky Shore

The side of the island has high cliffs and jagged volcanic rock along the coast. It makes for some dramatic views!

More Rainbow Eucalyptus trees

This was by the road on our way around west Maui. By far the most beautiful one so far!

West Maui

Today we ventured around west Maui. We took the local road north and came around counterclockwise. We had no idea that the road was really local and not much more than a bike path in spots. We all agreed that it was more dramatic and much more intense than the road to Hana. This is much drier and without the roadside jungle you can see how the road clings to the mountainside. There is also much less traffic- especially tourists. The family rated it one of the best all-time MFA roads. At one point Sam said I need a bottle of hair dye and a bottle of whiskey to survive the trip. That should say it all

Just a few examples of the narrow road. Most of the time I was too busy holding on for dear life to take photos.
