Fireworks over Waikiki

Every Friday at the other end of the beach from where we are staying. We wandered that way a found the real tourist center. It felt a lot like a tropical Las Vegas. We found a nice spot on the sand and enjoyed the show.

The Pink Palace

An icon on Waikiki beach!

Blue Ocean Seafood

We are loving the food trucks here in Waikiki. Though this one was more of a shipping container, it did not disappoint. We tried Loco Moco- a Hawaiian combo of rice with a burger patty topped with a fried egg, gravy, and onions. It was delicious!

Sam had sweet chili fried chicken and coconut shrimp. Yum!!

Shaved Ice

It’s the Hawaiian version of a snow cone. Refreshing and delicious after the beach!

When in Hawaii…

Be like Hawaiians! The flowers are incredible and everyone wears them in their hair.

It’s a bit odd to think about a US state having a monarchy!

Swimming at Waikiki

Amelia Earhart was here!

Diamondhead Lighthouse

In the shadow of the crater, it’s still operational.

Wild chickens

Yes, wild chickens. At first we thought the cab driver was kidding, but they are everywhere!

Along the beach walk

This was the center of tourism in the 1930’s. More beaches and cool historic buildings.

Waikiki Market

We found the new “Whole Foods” of Waikiki. It’s a wonderful store with all sorts of local fruits and traditional foods. Breakfast was a yogurt parfait, burritos, and delicious pastries. The people were so nice! We got an education on Hawaiian foods and samples of the local type of bananas. We will definitely be back!
